Outdoor Trips

Titahi Bay Rock Experience

Titahi bay is one of wellington's best real rock climbing areas. Suitable to for all levels of fitness and climbing ability. Now is a great time to try outdoor rock climbing, abseiling, rap jumping (face down abseiling) and pushing your limits.

The rock climbing

You climb under the careful guidance of our instructors. With easy grade 9 routes up small cliffs for beginners to hard grade 23 climbs. Our experienced guides can take you to the spot that is best suited to the group's abilities.

The abseiling

Here is where the real fun begins. Watching someone experience the rush of walking backwards over the lip of a cliff is almost as rewarding for the watcher as the abseiler. Being in control of your own descent is a great feeling.

The rap jumping

Whats more fun than walking backwards over a cliff? Walking forwards over a cliff of course, and then running down as fast as you can. And while this option may only be for the brave, all who try it....well.... wont shut up afterwards. More fun than you can shake a stick at!

Requirements

  • Depending on the activities selected a change of clothing may be required
  • Sturdy shoes are a must. Rock climbing shoes available for hire.
  • All other equipment (helmets, harnesses, etc..) is provided..
  • Only $55 per person. Minimum group numbers apply.

Dry Creek Abseil Adventure

Dry creek is an awesome little outdoor adventure area in the deepest darkest part of....the Hutt. Only HangDog has the concession from DOC that enables us to lead groups up into the back reaches of the area.

The Walk

By walking, also known as "bush bashing", up a private path our qualified guide can lead you to the top of the stream.

The Canyoning

Here is where the real fun begins. Jump into a wet suit and we're away. Slipping and sliding down the stream. Leaping into pools. Pushing the bounds of regular city slickers. Maybe a water fight. Then everyone stops and stares down to the depths of the waterfall.

The Abseil

The waterfall may only be 8m but that's enough. Lowering yourself backwards over a cliff always gives you a great buzz. Your guide will have taught you everything you need to know by now so you can abseil yourself down the cliff with ease (and with a little safety support from our guide).

The exit

A relaxed walk down the stream to the parking lot and we are done.
