Indoor Rock Climbing @ HangDog

Kids love climbing. You know it! Bring your kids to HangDog and they'll love you for it. They'll be scampering up the walls before you know it. Inside our ropeless boulder room there is a huge inflatable mattress that means kids can climb with no ropes and still be safe. Because everybody climbs at their own speed and chooses their own climbs, everyone can climb somewhere.

Come in any time and give your kid(s) a go. We will run you and them through the basics to make sure you and they will be safe and then we will let you go free.

Climbing is not just for kids though. The whole family can come in and climb together. Each person can climb walls that are at their level.

If you aren't confident in your kid's ability to just have a go you can get some lessons with one of our youth clubs.

One of the easiest and best things you can do for a kid's birthday is to have a party at HangDog.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions that parents have.

Can my child climb? We are so sure that your child can climb our walls that we provide a money back guarantee. The only thing that will hold them back is themselves.
Do the kids need fancy equipment? No. We can supply all the equipment they need. You only need loose clothes.
How old do they have to be? We have seen kids as young as three give it a go. Five and up is usually better though. Children under 13 are not allowed to belay (hold the safety rope). This means that if you are bringing in a group of kids under 13 you need an adult to child ratio of about one to three. Young kids are allowed to climb in the rope-less bouldering room under supervision.
Is it safe? Yes, it is. All of our equipment is top quality and we make your safety, and that of your kid's, our priority.

Here is some proof that the kids can climb. This is a video of a couple of the speed climbs from the National Competition held on the 20th June 2008. These kids are from some of the younger grades.

What should they wear? All the kids need is clothes that don't restrict their movement. Skirts and dresses are not advised.
Do they need fancy shoes? "Fancy" rock climbing shoes are great for improving your climbing. But the kids can climb in sneakers quite easily.
Does it get cold in winter? People prefer climbing in winter over summer because it is cooler. As long as the kids are climbing they wont be cold. If you plan to spectate more than climb you may wish to dress as if you were outdoors.
Can I just watch? As long as your kids are old enough (over 12 to belay) then you can most certainly just watch and for free too. People who aren't climbing can enter for free.

Here is an amazing 9 year old girl leading climbing up a serious overhang. Lead climbing is where you carry the safety rope up with you and clip in as you go. Don't worry this is for more advanced climbers, your kids wont have to do this (yet).
